In 1994, as a result of activities undertaken by MEXA (Movimiento Estudiantil Xicano de Aztlan), the office of the Provost provided support to establish the L.U.P.E. Scholarship, which has evolved into the present day TOCE Scholarship.
The TOCE / L.U.P.E. scholarship award is intended to encourage all students at Michigan State University who have demonstrated capacity to achieve educational and professional goals, as well as a demonstrated commitment to and involvement in the MSU Chicano/Latino community.
Recipients are selected on the basis of demonstrated leadership, commitment to and involvement with the MSU Chicano/Latino community, financial need as determined by the federal government according to its policies and procedures, academic achievement and at least one full year of full-time student at MSU and has current full-time status when applying for the award.
