On September 20, 2008, Katrina "Kara" Tagget; beloved daughter of Sara and David Tagget; loving sister of Blake; cherished granddaughter of Eleanor and Paul Tedesco (Dover, MA), Shirley and Duane Massman (Lake Lure, NC), left her place on earth. She graduated in 2005 from Centennial High School where she was an Honor Roll student and a member of the Tennis Team. She was in her senior year at Michigan State University (MSU) majoring in Public Administration and Public Policy with a specialization in Political Economics and she was consistently on the Deans List every semester since spring of her freshman year.
Kara was a mentor for MSU's Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities (RCPD) and received the RCPD Outstanding Mentor award for the last two years. She received the 2008 Samaritan Scholar Award, the Richard B. Gerisch Scholarship 2008 and the Social Science Distinguished Scholar 2008. She was a member of the International Golden Key Honor Society and the pre-law fraternity Phi Alpha Delta (where she was Director of Membership). She had been accepted into MSU's college of Social Sciences Internship program, Semester Study Program in Washington, D.C., for spring of 2009 and had planned to graduate in 2009 Magna Cum Laude. She was highly regarded at the RCPD for her service to others, careful planning, pleasant demeanor, and academic capabilities. She made a difference in her brief life.
The Katrina Tagget Fellowship is intended to memorialize Katrina's contributions and encourage others with disabilities to excel both academically and through service to others. Read more about Katrina Tagget's legacy to the RCPD.
