The Multi-Racial Unity Living Experience

The Multi-Racial Unity Living Experience (MRULE) offers students in Residence Halls and beyond opportunities to increase knowledge and understanding of what they can do to contribute to positive race relations in their lives and their communities. It provides students from all backgrounds a unique forum to come together.

Through open and frank discussions on controversial issues, informative presentations, interactive exercises and a variety of experiences that encourage the development of genuine friendships, students create and cultivate the experience of multiracial unity. They learn through action the concept of unity and diversity, while developing leadership skills that give them an edge on working and thriving in diverse environments. The mission of MRULE is accomplished through the following initiatives:

Round Table Discussions:
The "backbone" of the MRULE program. Once a week, each MRULE group meets for one hour to discuss, learn, and debate, social issues.

Community Services & Activisim: Each semester, MRULE groups participate in service projects that give back to the community around us as well as strengthen the bond between members. Members also participate in community and global activism events. The VVOCF initiative introduced members to activism on a global scale reaching halfway around the world to South Africa.

Community Building Trips: MRULE participants have the opportunity to take part in a trips that blend education, entertainment, and community building into one. The Fall trip is a day trip, while the Spring trip is a weekend experience.

Monthly Socials: Each month, the MRULE groups have a social. These socials give the members a chance to spend time together, with the whole group, in a setting outside of the round table discussions. This is a major contributor to the community building aspect of MRULE.

"The College Assistance Migrant Program has a track record of proven success. Every spring, a larger number of students admitted to MSU through CAMP complete their degrees and graduate. Those students have become role models for those that follow, tangible evidence to aspiring students and to interested supporters of the program, that hard work pays off. When I established a scholarship endowment to assist CAMP students beginning their junior year of school, I knew that even small sums could make a critical difference in allowing committed students to continue. I have never been disappointed in the motivation, efforts, and results."
