Paul L. Dressel Fellowship

Paul L. Dressel (1910-1989) served at MSU as distinguished Professor for the College of Education and as the first Director of the MSU Counseling Center for close to 50 years.

Dr. Dressel helped establish the first student counseling center at MSU after World War II.  He authored several books and publications including The Hannah Years, a history of MSU.  His devotion to scholarship and the profession of counseling prompted his family and friends to established the Dressel Fellowship Endowment in 1990 for the MSU Counseling Center to honor his memory.

The fellowship is awarded annually to encourage interns who have demonstrated the capacity to achieve educational and professional goals, the motivation to achieve these goals and the initiative to seek opportunities to further their progress.

"Safe Place is an invaluable organization that will forever be in my heart and mind. Since graduating from MSU, I have continued my work in service, now as an AmeriCorps VISTA for a non-profit organization in Detroit. The staff and volunteers are the most knowledgeable and caring individuals working hard around the clock at Safe Place, and I would not be where I am today without them. I hope to continue my work in service throughout my life, especially working on women's issues, including domestic violence."
