The LBGT Resource Center is housed on the third floor MSU's Student Services Building and is a resource to students, faculty and staff. Opened in 2005, the mission of the center is to lead and collaborate on university-wide initiatives to create an affirming climate and enhance academic and support services for Lesbian, Bisexual, Gay and Transgender students and their respective communities at MSU. Experiencing significant growth over the last four years, the center has quickly outgrown its current space.
This past spring, with the support of the Vice-President for Student Affairs and Services, the LBGT Resource Center will begin renovations that will enhance the current space to meet the needs of a growing community. The cost of the expansion is estimated to be approximately $40,000. Once completed, the center will be configured to promote maximum student interaction and provide a reception area with seating, a place for meetings and a new resource library.
As a result of this commitment, students from the LBGT community have stepped forward to support the initiative with a pledge to donate 10% of the goal and are encouraging other members of the LBGT community to match their gifts. This project will enhance the center and resources available for current and future students, faculty and staff, provide the Spartan Community with increasing awareness, and ultimately help the center continue to evolve to provide cutting edge student support, education and resources to meet the growing needs of the Spartan community.
