The MSU Family Resource Center (FRC) disseminates resource information to assist individuals and families in their balance of work, educational and family responsibilities. The FRC staff advocates for personal and family issues, regardless of family constellation. The office collaborates with other administrative units to develop and implement family sensitive employment and academic policies and practices. The FRC develops and coordinates initiatives to support current and anticipated future needs of families and their dependents, and to recruit and retain quality employees and students.
The Family Resource Center accomplishes its mission by offering the following to the MSU Community:
Childcare: Support & Referral Services - The FRC provides information and advice for the MSU community on finding and choosing childcare and maintains the Family Helpers List. The FRC has space reserved at various childcare centers in the Lansing area for MSU employees and students who need emergency childcare free of charge. MSU's Sick Childcare Program is designed to support busy parents who are unable to take time off work or school. The FRC also serves as a resource for student-parents who need assistance finding scholarship support to help with the cost of childcare while attending school and provides free pre-finals childcare giving MSU students with children, ages two weeks to 9 years old, time to study for finals.
Pregnancy Support Services—The FRC provides referral support for students who are expecting.
Support Groups - The FRC offers information, consultation and resources to support MSU families through workshops, seminars and individual consultations, email listservs and support groups on the following topics:
Adoption Support Group: This is a group of adoptive and pre-adoptive MSU employees and students that meet twice per semester to discuss relevant topics.
Parents of Children with Autism Support Group—Started by MSU faculty and students, this support network is in the beginning stages of coordinating meetings and a support listserv.
Caregivers Together Support Group: Caring for a loved one with a chronic or debilitating condition is a reality that many of us now face. While this can be a rewarding experience, it can also be difficult at times. Caregivers Together is an ongoing support group designed to provide a range of supportive services to MSU employees who provide care to those they love by sharing information, assistance, and support in an effort to help caregivers remain healthy, improve their care giving skills, and remain in the care giving role.
Breastfeeding Support Services- Michigan State University supports breastfeeding mothers. The MSU administration understands the benefits of breastfeeding and encourages supervisors to provide a supportive environment for mothers who choose to nurse their babies or express/pump their breast milk during the work day. The FRC offers the following support to new mothers: Breast pump loans or rental information for low-income families, peer counseling and individual support, discussions of flexible schedules, assistance finding a private place to nurse or express while at work, help new moms connect with other nursing mothers in the MSU community, help finding additional resources and support.
Consultation on Work/Life Issues—The FRC is available to work with MSU employees and managers regarding flexible work arrangements and is a resource in the areas of flexible scheduling, relocation, commuting, leave time, health and well-being and having fun with your family.

The MSU Summer Enrichment Camp for Kids is a ten week long summer camp that serves 30-40 children daily between the ages of 5-12 years, 50% of which live in the MSU apartments. Learn more about the Summer Enrichment Camp for Kids.
