The Don Ausman Alternative Spring Break Scholarship
On January 28th, 2009 Don Ausman; beloved son of Phillip and Michelle Ausman and Renee' and Jim Wauldron; loving brother Marissa and Andrew Ausman and Jim Jr. and Mike Wauldron: dearest grandson of Nancy Ausman and Harry and Mary Bartolo passed away.
Don was a 22-year old Interdisciplinary Studies in Social Science and International Studies senior at Michigan State University and was determined to spend his life helping others less fortunate than him, a goal evidenced by the humanitarian work he did all over the globe. He studied abroad in Guana, Africa for six weeks and through his experience there, was passionate about raising money to help spread awareness of the HIV/AIDS virus. He traveled to Mexico last Alternative Spring Break to volunteer and was already planning to go to New Orleans this spring. He was also in the Leadership program showing foreign students around the campus. Don had applied to the JET program and was awaiting acceptance and his ultimate goal was to join the Peace Corps. His motto was "pay it forward" and he made a difference in his young life.
The Ausman and Wauldron families along with the Alternative Spring Break Student Organization at Michigan State University honor the life of Don Ausman by establishing the Don Ausman Alternative Spring Break Scholarship Fund. This scholarship keeps Don's memory and mission alive at Michigan State while assisting a fellow student by "Having fun by Helping others" through community service on their Alternative Spring Break.
