The Asian-Indian Endowment for the Education of Underserved Children
A partnership initiated in 2006 between the Asian-Indian Community and Michigan State University (MSU) resulted in the establishment of the Asian-Indian Endowment for the Education of Underserved Children. The mission of the endowment is to initiate an educational tutoring program linking MSU students to an organization within the Lansing area that serves underserved school aged children.
The endowment supports MSU students who participate in service-learning with the Boys and Girls Club of Lansing (BGC). Consistency in volunteer attendance is paramount to helping the BGC. However, reaching a service-learning site like the Boys and Girls Club of Lansing isn't easy for an MSU student without a car, making transportation a real challenge. The partnership is seeking to raise funds to overcome this challenge and enhance the experience. This endowment provides transportation for a minimum of 35 MSU students per week, stipends for two half-time student staff positions for the summer and funding to purchase supplemental supplies.
Gifts to support the Asian-Indian Endowment for the Education of Underserved Children will increase MSU"s ability to support MSU students working to empower the lives of hundreds of underserved youth in the Lansing area.
